Pruitt facilitated a visit for African American community leaders and critics to experience video simulations of split - second decisions faced by officers at the FBI . Pruitt has also taken innovative approaches to promote dialogue . He hosts a radio talk show to discuss community concerns and invites guests to discuss topics in a civil , professional , and productive manner . He even invited the FBI as a guest to share concerns and provide law enforcement ' s perspective to address any misunderstandings that contribute to mistrust . The FBI St . Louis Division has been collaborating with Mr . Pruitt on civil rights issues since he became president in 2010 . He actively promotes open discussions and encourages input from all sides on matters of public importance . One example is how he addressed community concerns about police pursuits , organizing a town hall where residents and police departments could discuss the issue . During the town hall , Mr . Pruitt emphasized that the NAACP does not take sides , acknowledging the risks involved for police officers , subjects , and innocent bystanders . He aims to foster open dialogue to bring about positive change . The FBI surprised Adolphus M . Pruitt II , the president of the NAACP St . Louis , on his local iHeart radio talk show . Special Agent in Charge ( SAC ) Jay Greenberg interrupted the show to present him with the FBI Director ' s Community Leadership Award ( DCLA ) . On April 19 , 2024 , there will be a national ceremony at FBI Headquarters in Washington , D . C . , where FBI Director Christopher Wray will personally present the award to Mr . Pruitt and other honorees chosen by FBI field offices nationwide . The FBI made the DCLA in 1990 to honor people and organizations for their amazing service to the community and their contributions to justice . Some past honorees in St . Louis include former baseball player Joseph Cunningham , the late Martin Mathews from the Mathews - Dickey Boys ' & Girls ' Club , and neighborhood activist Jean Leible .
