In a Springfield federal court today , a guy from West Springfield pleaded guilty to having a machinegun . Angel Vargas , Jr . , who is 35 years old , admitted to unlawfully possessing a machinegun and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 14 by U . S . District Judge Mark G . Mastroianni . Vargas was indicted by a grand jury in January 2023 . On January 5 , 2023 , when the police searched Vargas ' s place , they found four loaded firearms , including a "ghost gun" with a Glock - style machinegun conversion device , also known as a "Glock switch , " which lets a Glock semi - automatic pistol shoot automatically . They also found Vargas ' s cell phone , which had more evidence of him having and dealing other firearms , including other Glock switches . When Vargas was arrested , he was already out on bail for a case in Springfield District Court where he was accused of different firearms crimes . The maximum sentence that Vargas can get is 10 years in prison and three years of supervised release . He has also agreed to give up the firearms , the Glock switch , and the ammo . The sentence will be determined by a federal judge based on the U . S . sentencing guidelines and laws for criminal cases . Acting U . S . Attorney Joshua S . Levy and James M . Ferguson , Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives , Boston Field Division , made the announcement . The West Springfield Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police provided valuable help . Assistant U . S . Attorney Steven H .
