Hey guys , guess what? Today , U . S . Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the USDA ' s Agricultural Marketing Service has teamed up with Pennsylvania for the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure Program . They ' re offering over $26 million in grant funding to strengthen the supply chain . Pennsylvania is accepting applications for this funding until March 30 , 2024 . The announcement was made at the Pennsylvanian Farm Show with Secretary Vilsack , Governor Josh Shapiro , and Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding . Secretary Vilsack talked about how important it is to support small and mid - sized farms and food businesses . Back in May 2023 , USDA announced that they had $420 million available for the RFSI program to support local and regional food systems . Each state ' s application updates can be found on the AMS website . Secretary Vilsack mentioned that supporting the middle of the supply chain is crucial for a strong agricultural economy in Pennsylvania . With RFSI funding , Pennsylvania will be able to strengthen their food systems and create more opportunities for their agriculture and food manufacturing industries . The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has a few priorities for the funding , including projects that benefit underserved farmers , processing for dairy , fruit , vegetable , and organic commodities , worker safety and training , and projects from growers , producers , processors , and shippers . The state ' s priorities are influenced by talking to different groups of people and reaching out to producers who don ' t have as much access to resources . They ' re using previous work and programs to create local and strong food systems . The partnership between the USDA and Pennsylvania is helping to provide funding to the parts of the supply chain that need it the most . This funding will create new opportunities for smaller producers , make healthy food more accessible , and make the supply chain more resilient . The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure grant program is an important investment in Pennsylvania ' s agricultural infrastructure and shows their commitment to sustainable growth and resilience . Farmers and communities can apply for funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture . The program also provides support and assistance to farmers and food businesses in processing and distribution . For more information , visit the AMS Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure webpage . USDA is working to transform America ' s food system by focusing on local and regional food production , fair markets , access to healthy food , and investments in rural communities . They are committed to equity and removing barriers . Learn more at www . usda . gov .
