☷Statement on Narco Criminal Violence in Ecuador United States Department of State

Since January 9th , Ecuador has been dealing with a lot of violence and terrorism caused by narco - criminals targeting innocent people . Over 100 prison guards are being held hostage in different places . The United States strongly condemns these attacks and the criminals behind them . We want Ecuador to know that we are committed to working closely with them to fight against criminal organizations . We will help President Noboa with our law enforcement cooperation and security assistance programs . In the next few weeks , some important U . S . officials will visit Ecuador to discuss how we can work together even better to tackle the problem of transnational criminal organizations . These officials include Assistant Secretary Todd Robinson , Deputy Assistant Secretary Kevin Sullivan , and General Laura Richardson . U . S . law enforcement officials will also go to Ecuador to help with criminal investigations . Additionally , we will share more intelligence , cooperate on fighting cybercrime , and assist with prison reforms . We will do everything we can to hold accountable those who engage in criminal activities and undermine the rule of law .
