☷USDA Announces $270 Million Awarded to Build Food Supply Chain Resiliency

Hey , guess what? Today , the U . S . Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the U . S . Department of Agriculture ( USDA ) has given out over $270 million to state departments of agriculture . They ' re using this money to strengthen local food systems and make the middle of the food supply chain more resilient . The program behind all this is called the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure program , and it ' s run by USDA ' s Agricultural Marketing Service ( AMS ) . Basically , states and territories will be giving out grants to different organizations like farmers , schools , and hospitals to improve their infrastructure and make the food system more resilient . Oh , and by the way , seven states have already started accepting applications for these grants , and there ' s a total of $230 million up for grabs across the country . This investment is gonna benefit everyone - consumers , producers , and rural communities . It ' s all part of the Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure program , which was authorized by the American Rescue Plan . The Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure program was announced today by seven states: Colorado , Connecticut , Delaware , Kentucky , Louisiana , Utah , and West Virginia . They will be funding projects to expand the capacity for various aspects of the food industry , such as processing , manufacturing , storing , transporting , and distributing food products like specialty crops , dairy , grains , and aquaculture . However , meat and poultry are not included . Each state has been awarded a certain amount of money for these projects , and interested parties can apply for subawards through their state ' s department of agriculture . Additionally , the states will be providing supply chain coordination and technical assistance to farmers and food businesses involved in processing , aggregation , and distribution .
