The U . S . Department of Education just released a plan to help schools and students complete the FAFSA form more easily . They want to make sure students can get as much financial aid as possible for their education . Since the new FAFSA form came out , over 3 . 6 million forms have been submitted . The Department ' s plan includes sending experts to colleges to help them process financial aid , providing funding and resources for colleges that need extra support , and releasing tools to help colleges process student records and give out financial aid packages . U . S . Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona says they ' re committed to making the FAFSA better and hopes these steps will help colleges make the most of it . The plan will especially focus on schools that have fewer resources and older software systems . The Department wants to give colleges the resources they need to quickly process student aid and give students enough time to make decisions about their education . They also encourage colleges to be flexible and give students time to review aid offers before deciding where to enroll . The Department will send financial aid experts to help lower - resourced colleges and will create a concierge service to give colleges personalized support based on their needs . These federal liaisons , many of whom used to work in financial aid , will answer questions and help colleges find resources . The Department is giving $50 million to nonprofit groups that specialize in financial aid support . These groups will use the money to recruit financial aid professionals who can offer extra help to colleges that don ' t have enough resources . The funding will be managed by the Educational Credit Management Corporation and will involve experienced nonprofits like the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Partnership for Education Advancement . The Department will start releasing test versions of student financial aid records in the next two weeks . This will help colleges and states get their systems ready to process aid packages . On Friday , the Department started sharing new data and resources to encourage schools to complete the FAFSA form for the 2024 - 25 school year . They released data on high school students ' FAFSA submissions two months ahead of schedule . They will continue to provide updates to high schools so they can track progress and support their students . The Department also created a new resource , StudentAid . gov/fafsatips , to help applicants and contributors complete the 2024 - 25 FAFSA form successfully .
