☷Miami Armed Career Criminal Sentenced to 30 Years in Federal Prison

In Miami , a guy got hit with a 30 - year prison sentence , plus five years of supervised release , for having an illegal gun and ammo . He was labeled as an armed career criminal and a jury found him guilty in October 2023 . The whole thing went down over eight days when this dude named Demetris Kewan Mackie , who ' s 29 and from Miami , used the same gun to shoot at two people . One of the victims got hurt . On April 12 , 2023 , Mackie beat up and shot a guy outside a laundromat . Cops showed up and followed the blood trail to the collapsed victim . The next day , the victim told the cops that a dude with a silver - topped gun and a teardrop tattoo by his eye attacked him . Surveillance footage confirmed the story . Three days later , the cops responded to another shooting where the victim was fine and pointed out Mackie as the attacker . On April 20 , 2023 , the cops busted Mackie and found the same silver - topped gun he used for both shootings . U . S . Attorney Markenzy Lapointe and Special Agent in Charge Christopher A . Robinson announced the sentence handed down by Judge Rodolfo A . Ruiz II . The ATF led the investigation with help from the Miami - Dade Police Department and the North Miami Beach Police Department . Assistant U . S . Attorneys Zachary A . Keller and Vanessa Bonhomme handled the prosecution .
