A guy named Sean Peter Brewer from Oldsmar , Florida got sentenced to seven years in federal prison by U . S . District Judge Steven D . Merryday . Why? Well , turns out he had a gun even though he ' s a convicted felon , he had some methamphetamine that he was planning to distribute , and he had that gun for the purpose of drug trafficking . Brewer actually pleaded guilty to these charges on September 1 , 2023 . The Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives and the Clearwater Police Department handled the investigation , and Assistant United States Attorneys David W . A . Chee and David P . Sullivan prosecuted the case . This is all part of Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , a program that brings law enforcement and communities together to fight violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer . The Department launched a strategy on May 26 , 2021 to reduce violent crime , and it focuses on building trust in communities , supporting organizations that prevent violence , setting enforcement priorities , and measuring the results . Here ' s what happened: On November 11 , 2022 , the Clearwater Police Department received a call about a guy passed out in his car at a gas station on Gulf to Bay Boulevard in Clearwater . When the cops and fire department arrived , they found Brewer unconscious behind the wheel . They checked him out , and then the cops gave him a sobriety test , which he failed . So they arrested him for driving under the influence and searched his car . That ' s when they found a backpack with a scale and baggies for drugs , some weed , different kinds of pills , 61 grams of meth , a loaded Smith & Wesson M&P 9 Shield pistol , and a "Cash App" debit card with the name "$seanbrew87" on it . Oh , and it turns out Brewer had a previous felony conviction for using a communication device illegally . Because of that , he ' s not allowed to have a gun or ammo under federal law .
