Danielle Shipley , a security officer at the DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center in Fort Eustis , had originally planned to become a physical therapist . However , her life took a different turn after she graduated from Old Dominion University . She received a phone call from a friend in 2009 about a job opening in the logistics office , and she decided to take it as a temporary gig while she figured out her next move . Little did she know , that temporary job would turn into a long - term career that she has never regretted . Shipley now works as a security officer at the Center ' s Fort Eustis location , where she acts as a liaison between the headquarters and the team at Fort Eustis , helping to solve various problems . She believes that her role demonstrates that the Center offers a range of opportunities for those who want to support its technological mission , even if they ' re not scientists or engineers . Shipley is grateful for the chance to work with great people and do interesting things in the aviation field , which was not originally part of her plan . She also appreciates the emphasis her team puts on work - life balance , especially as she raises her seven - year - old daughter . Shipley attributes a lot of her career success to the support of her leadership and her teammates , and she encourages newcomers to ask questions and seek help from their colleagues . The DEVCOM Aviation & Missile Center , based in Redstone Arsenal , Alabama , is responsible for advancing technology in aviation and missile systems for the Army . DEVCOM , a part of the U . S . Army Futures Command , is in charge of creating new aviation and missile technologies . They work to provide cost - effective solutions that meet the Army ' s needs and priorities .
