There have been some new indictments in the Southern District of Georgia involving illegal machineguns . The charges include illegal firearms possession and drug distribution . Some defendants have already been sentenced to federal prison or are waiting for further proceedings after pleading guilty to federal gun charges . According to Jill E . Steinberg , the U . S . Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia , illegally possessed firearms continue to be a problem for law enforcement agencies , especially guns that have been modified for fully automatic fire . In collaboration with other law enforcement agencies , they are working to target these illegal weapons and make the streets safer . These cases are part of Project Safe Neighborhoods , which aims to reduce violent crime by focusing on convicted felons who possess guns illegally . Some of the individuals indicted during this term include Jacorey Rivers , charged with various offenses including possession of a machinegun and drug distribution , and Christopher Michael Owens , Robert Michael Waltz , and Juan Carlos Rosado Morla , who are facing drug trafficking charges . Other defendants who have recently been sentenced include Chester Morgan , who pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and was sentenced to 46 months in prison . It ' s important to note that all indicted defendants are innocent until proven guilty . Savannah Police officers busted Morgan in May 2023 for having a stolen pistol in his car . Wesley Rosenberg , 25 , got slapped with a 20 - month prison sentence and a $1 , 000 fine for selling firearms without a license . Isaac C . Brown , 40 , is waiting on his sentence after admitting to having a gun as a convicted felon . Joshua Bowser , 29 , is in hot water for having an illegal pistol during an arrest in Savannah . Kenneth Oliver Riley , 60 , is also awaiting sentencing for having a gun as a felon . Brian Wesley Dean , 45 , is in trouble for having a pistol during a traffic stop . Jose Miguel Marrero , 27 , and Jacqueline Christmas , 50 , are facing charges for lying about buying guns . The cases are being handled by the U . S .
