☷Georgia Tech Wins NSA s Codebreaker Challenge for Third Consecutive Year

Georgia Tech once again took home first place in the NSA sponsored Codebreaker Challenge , making it their fourth win since 2013 . This year ' s challenge involved a mysterious signal that students had to locate and analyze , leading to the discovery of a rogue server that needed to be stopped . Georgia Tech had the most student participation and earned the most points overall . The University of California , Santa Cruz also had a standout student who completed all nine tasks in just five days . The University of North Georgia placed second , and SANS Technology Institute finished third . The challenge had over 5 , 000 participants from 450 academic institutions across the country . The CBC has been instrumental in promoting cyber - related education and fostering engagement between campuses and the NSA . Eric Bryant , one of the original creators of the CBC , mentioned that the challenge started as a fun puzzle but has proven to be a worthwhile investment for the Agency . He believes it ' s a great way for students to develop their cybersecurity skills before joining the Agency . Students who do well in the CBC are encouraged to apply to work at the Agency , with many even receiving job offers . Owen Parkins , a student solver from the 2018 CBC who now works at NSA , shared how participating in the challenge helped him land his job . He loves working at NSA and is grateful for the unique opportunities it offers . The CBC has been instrumental in preparing and attracting new cyber talent to the Agency since 2013 , according to Mayne .
