Space professionals at Joint Base Lewis - McChord , Washington recently met with representatives from the Space and Missile Defense Center of Excellence to discuss Army space initiatives . The purpose of the meeting was to gather feedback from warfighters in order to enhance space , high - altitude , and strategic missile defense capabilities . The visit included members from various military units , such as the 1st Multi - Domain Task Force and the 7th Infantry Division . The goal was to understand the needs of the warfighters and ensure that the Army is well - prepared to dominate the space domain . The SMDCoE is dedicated to developing and training space and missile defense forces to succeed in combat . Feedback from Soldiers and leaders is crucial for improving systems and processes to deliver the right capabilities at the right time . The main goal of the MDEB , according to 1st MDEB commander Joseph Mroszczyk , is to provide long - range sensing and non - kinetic effects delivery across all domains . He mentioned that each company within the MDEB uses space capabilities to support both kinetic and nonkinetic effects . Mroszczyk and Dunbar also discussed the challenges of managing space talent for enlisted Soldiers in the Space Control Company , as there is currently no specific MOS for space . They talked about transitioning towards a 40D space MOS and increasing training support for the company . Mroszczyk asked for flexibility in attending schools in Colorado Springs to meet readiness requirements and discussed future fielding plans and structure changes with Dunbar . The relationship with SMDCoE is important for training and equipment issues to ensure MDEB success .
