Job Title: SUPERVISING CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR
Department: COUNTY ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
Starting Salary: $63,911 (Range 76)
Definition:
Supervises criminal investigators assigned to the County Attorney’s criminal investigations division and conducts specialized investigations and monitors cases including criminal, civil, economic, racketeering, and environmental crimes and prepares documentation and evidence for presentation in court.

Tasks:
Supervises a team of detectives in the County Attorney’s criminal investigation division providing oral and written directives on daily and weekly duties. Oversees the daily activities and work product of assigned staff; approves work schedules and operational assignments; authorizes necessary overtime, vacation, and sick leave requests.
Maintains workplace security for all County Attorney staff and personnel.
Maintains administrative training files for detectives and administrative staff to ensure required training and AZPOST requirements and reporting are completed as required.
Conducts quarterly training for detectives to include weapons qualifications and certifications, AZPOST required training.
Participates in a variety of meetings and community related functions as required to include other law enforcement agencies, schools, community organizations, and other government agencies.
Conducts daily review of incoming reports from various law enforcement agencies, reviews daily arrest reports from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Participates in daily meetings with the County Attorney to review and plan for pending investigations, resolve current issues, and provide for
workplace security.
Reviews reports submitted by detectives; review requests for follow-up investigations by the deputy county attorneys; reviews and manages cases as requested by the deputy county attorneys; submits subpoenas, writs and documentation to victim, witnesses of crimes/
Helps to maintain order and uphold state and local laws during the exercise of assigned duties for the County Attorney.
Conducts complex investigations of highly specialized or diversified cases such as child abuse, sexual assault, narcotics, fraud, murder, corruption in government, white collar and/or organized crimes; Investigates criminal, civil, juvenile, narcotics, consumer fraud, racketeering and economic crime cases; Investigates backgrounds of expert witnesses and takes recorded statements.
Searches, gathers, analyzes, and secures supporting evidence and maintains chain of custody.
Conducts internal department investigations.
Plans and conducts extensive interviews and interrogations involving delicate and sensitive issues.
Performs surveillance, specialized field investigations and undercover work.
Interviews witnesses, clients, or victims to identify testimonial evidence.
Locates, identifies, and gathers information and evidence to support legal action.
Conducts criminal case reviews, monitors, maintains and updates case records to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and departmental policies.
Coordinates with the attorney or legal assistant to establish and to take legal action necessary to enforce existing court orders.
Prepares reports documenting investigative activities.
Coordinates the activities of investigators or law enforcement personnel and use of technical investigative equipment.
Manages an assigned case load.
Maintains liaison with other law enforcement agencies and jurisdictions.
Participates in staff meetings and ongoing investigative or law enforcement training.
Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties.
Testifies in a variety of judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings regarding the results of investigations.

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in law enforcement, law, criminal justice, or a closely related field as determined by the Appointing Authority AND three years of supervisory experience; OR three years’ experience as a sergeant including investigative experience in a specialized area as defined by the Appointing Authority.

Other Requirements:
Licenses and Certificates:
This position is required to possess Arizona Peace Officer Certification or must be eligible to participate in and pass the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZ POST) waiver examination if the person holds a Peace Officer Certification from a state other than Arizona. Failure to maintain the required licensure/certification shall be grounds for termination. All employees are required to possess a valid Arizona Class D Driver’s License at the time of appointment.
Must possess appropriate training and certifications to become a Terminal Operator and maintain such license for access to local, state, and federal criminal databases.
Physical/Sensory Requirements:
Physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position.
