Hey everyone! I ' m excited to be here at the Trade Facilitation and Cargo Security Summit with our partners at U . S . Customs and Border Protection . This summit is crucial for ensuring the reliability , safety , and security of cross - border trade . Our partnership with CBP is strong , and we are working together in various areas to support U . S . competitiveness . The challenges to cross - border trade have grown , especially with supply chain disruptions caused by recent events . We are committed to addressing these challenges and protecting U . S . national security . In order to enhance supply chain resilience and economic security , we must also focus on rebuilding our industrial base and critical technologies domestically . The Biden - Harris Administration is investing heavily in American competitiveness , with $1 trillion allocated towards clean energy , economic development , and technological innovation to ensure our success in the global economy . When it comes to building resilient supply chains , the Administration understood early on that reliable and fair trade is crucial for U . S . competitiveness . President Biden ' s executive actions on supply chains have set a new direction for U . S . economic policy , including the establishment of the Council on Supply Chain Resilience and efforts to respond quickly to supply chain crises . This has allowed Americans to access essential goods like medicines and technologies , reducing our reliance on adversaries . The Commerce Department has played a central role in these efforts , particularly through the creation of the Supply Chain Center , which uses industry expertise and data to identify and address supply chain risks . We have also launched the Semiconductor Alert Mechanism to facilitate faster problem - solving in collaboration with partners and the private sector . Our companies are telling us they are facing new and increasing cybersecurity risks , intellectual property theft , and unfair trade practices from competitors both domestically and internationally . Since day one , the Biden - Harris Administration has acknowledged these threats to our economic security and has taken significant steps to address them . The Department of Commerce plays a key role in many of these actions , specifically in building resilient supply chains with our allies and ensuring the safety of tech ecosystems where our companies operate . Let me break down our approach in these areas . Ensuring the safety and security of our tech ecosystems is also a top priority . We ' re actively countering any threats to our economic and national security , particularly when it comes to cybersecurity . We ' re committed to helping our companies protect themselves from these threats . Our National Institute of Standards and Technology has just updated the Cybersecurity Framework , which is a really important document for managing cybersecurity risk . The new edition is designed for everyone , from small schools to big companies . Our Bureau of Industry and Security has put export controls in place to protect our national security . It just makes sense to stop sensitive technology from getting into the wrong hands . Working with other countries , we can make sure that trade is fair and safe . For example , we recently coordinated with our partners to respond to Russia ' s invasion of Ukraine . Our Bureau of Industry and Security is also teaming up with CBP to identify and detain shipments that are a concern . We ' re also focusing on AI safety and asking developers to share their safety measures . We ' ve even created an AI Safety Institute to work with partners to advance AI safety . Protecting intellectual property is also really important for our economic security . The Department of Commerce runs a program called STOPfakes . gov to help exporters protect their IP assets . From export controls to AI safety to IP protection , we ' re working hard to make sure technology and trade are secure . Our goal is to promote reliable and efficient trade and help American companies succeed . We ' re still working on creating top - notch analytics and market intelligence , leveling the playing field , and boosting our industrial base to support the private sector . The President , the Commerce Department , and other government partners are dedicated to making sure you stay competitive and protecting our economy and national security . Some key players in this effort include the Bureau of Industry and Security , Economic Development Administration , International Trade Administration , and National Institute of Standards and Technology . Don Graves is leading the charge on export controls , exports , the CHIPS and Science Act , and the U . S . - Brazil CEO Commercial Dialogue .
