A guy from Jackson got 10 years in prison for having a gun as a felon and shooting at cops during a crazy car chase . Jerry Shannon McAlister , 47 , didn ' t stop when the Clinton Police tried to pull him over on July 21 , 2021 . He sped off into Jackson and even shot at an officer . McAlister already had a rap sheet , including a conviction for statutory rape , so it was illegal for him to have a gun . U . S . Attorney Todd W . Gee and ATF Special Agent in Charge Joshua Jackson announced the sentencing . The ATF and Clinton PD worked on the case , and Assistant U . S . Attorney Matt Allen handled the prosecution . This is all part of Project Safe Neighborhoods , a program to reduce violent crime and make our communities safer . The department recently started a new strategy to focus on trust in communities , support for violence prevention groups , targeted enforcement , and tracking results .
