Job Title: Parks and Trails Aide
Job Type: Seasonal; Non-Exempt (up to 40 hours per week for 26 weeks)
Duration: Begins Monday April 22nd - Oct 7th, 2024*
Compensation: $21.00 – $22.00 per hour
Location: All County Parks and Trails (Telluride and Placerville, CO)
POSITION SUMMARY
Parks and Trails Aides perform day-to-day parks, trails and grounds maintenance duties in several locations throughout the County. County parks include the Down Valley Park and Placerville Park. A list of County trails can be found on the San Miguel County website:

The position will report directly to and receive daily direction and supervision from the Parks Supervisor or Parks and Trails Lead and will be compensated at $21.00 - $22.00 per hour. As a part-time, seasonal position, the Parks and Trails Aide position is not eligible for County-sponsored health insurance and benefit plans. Worker’s Compensation and general liability insurance is provided to all county employees.
Supervision Received:
Reports directly to, and will receive daily direction and supervision from the Parks Supervisor or Parks and Trails Lead.
Supervision Exercised:
This position possesses no supervisory responsibilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to, the following:
Regularly performs cleaning, painting, trash removal, carpentry, and routine repairs.
Maintains parks, open spaces, trails and facilities, includes mowing, weeding, string trimming, fertilizing, planting, pruning, mulching, and irrigation.
Uses and maintains vehicles, equipment, and tools.
Responsible for maintaining and caring for turf, plants, shrubs, and trees.
Obtains and maintains proficiency on all tools, equipment and vehicles required to perform maintenance duties.
Safely performs duties by recognizing and reporting unsafe conditions, complies with safety training guidelines and works safely to prevent at-fault accidents.
Follows oral and written instructions.
Performs routine maintenance on equipment and tools in a timely manner.
Ability to read and follow operator manuals.
Regularly uses the following mechanical equipment but not limited to tractors, mowers, utility vehicles, leaf blowers, power washers, string trimmers, and other small engine equipment.
Uses various mechanical and non-mechanical hand tools required for minor projects and equipment repairs.
Safely operates chainsaws and a variety of trail tools.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
A high-school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
3 to 5 years general grounds keeping experience is strongly preferred
Applicants with an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record. Ability to drive a manual, stick shift preferred.
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a comprehensive, pre-employment criminal background check.

Requires balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, repetitive motion, kneeling, lifting, pulling pushing, reaching, stooping and walking. The employees must possess the mental acuity in order to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive reasoning processes and the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must also possess close visual acuity.

This position requires work to be performed outdoors in all types of weather including potentially adverse conditions, in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others. Loud noise and physical vibrations may occur as a result of operating mowers, tractors or saws. Adequate footwear, eye glasses and ear protection are required. Extra eye glasses and ear protection are available at the park shop.
