Job Title: Fairgrounds Maintenance Aide
Job Type: Temporary; Seasonal; Non-Exempt (Approx. 28 hours for 26 weeks)
Compensation: $21.00 – $22.00 per hour
Location: All County Facilities (Norwood, CO)
POSITION SUMMARY
Performs and manages maintenance and grounds keeping duties including repairs, preventative maintenance, and improvements to the San Miguel County Fairgrounds and Regional Park. Provides maintenance and grounds keeping duties at other County locations including the Glockson Building and potentially other County-owned facilities/parks.
This position reports directly to and will receive daily direction and supervision from the Fairgrounds Maintenance Technician and will be compensated at $21.00 – $22.00 per hour for a period not to exceed 26 weeks. As a temporary, part-time/on call position, the Fairgrounds Maintenance Technician will not be eligible for County-sponsored insurance and benefits. However, Worker’s Compensation, general liability insurance, and Employee Assistance Program is provided to all county employees.
Supervision Received:
Receives direct supervision from the County Fairgrounds and Regional Park’s Maintenance Technician and may at times receive direction from the Fairgrounds Coordinator.
Supervision Exercised:
This position possesses no supervisory responsibilities.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The following statements are illustrative of the

Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to, the following:
Keeps walkways and parking areas free of trash.
Maintains grounds in the summer including mowing lawns, trimming bushes weeding, watering, and performing routine landscape duties.
Operates, maintains equipment, including trucks, tractors, lawn mowing and grounds keeping equipment.
Assists County Fairgrounds staff with event(s) set-up.
Performs maintenance activities such as painting, drywall repair, and equipment repair.
Makes recommendations regarding facility and equipment needs.
Works in coordination with Fairgrounds staff on all aspects of Fairgrounds and Regional Park operations, maintenance and facility use.
Grooms outdoor arena (at least 3 x week) and race track (at least 1 x week), and indoor arena (at least 3 x week).
Provides on-call backup services including but not limited to: snow plowing, emergency facilities repairs/maintenance, or any other Maintenance Technician duties as deemed necessary.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned
DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of buildings and grounds maintenance methods.
Knowledge of equipment maintenance requirements for the tools and equipment used to maintain buildings and grounds.
Knowledge in the use of chemicals, basic building maintenance, and repair procedures.
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor.
Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
Ability to perform minor repairs.
Ability to safely operate snow removal equipment including snow plow, skid steer, ATV with plow blade, tractor plus grooming implements, and hand shovel.
Able to organize and manage time efficiently.
Ability to speak one or more foreign languages, particularly Spanish is preferred.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and members of the community.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to understand verbal information and instruction.
Ability to read, comprehend, and compose written information and instructions.
Ability to read and comprehend safety rules and manuals, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to use mathematical reasoning to carry out duties and responsibilities math.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions and deviate from those instructions if the conditions warrant.
Ability to use and apply technology.
Ability to apply problem solving skills in a variety of circumstances.
Perform work in emergency situations.

Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to satisfactorily pass a comprehensive, pre-employment criminal background, a pre-employment drug screen and motor vehicle check.

The employees must possess the mental acuity in order to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive reasoning processes and the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must also possess close visual acuity.

This position requires work to be performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments. Approximately 10% of time is spent in a garage/workroom with exposure to loud, vibration; lawn mowers, weed eaters, skid steer, tractor, plus various implements, snow plows, ATVs, saws, and exposure to various and potentially toxic chemicals; gasoline and diesel fuel; and other solvents used in cleaning and repairs.
This position requires work to be performed in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to my co-workers or others. Work environments may include, at times, working and operating vehicles and equipment in severe weather conditions, especially during the winter season.
