☷North Fort Myers Felon Sentenced for Unlawfully Possessing a Firearm and Ammunition

In Fort Myers , Florida , a judge sentenced 20 - year - old Chester Lewis Risco , III , of North Fort Myers , to three years and 10 months in federal prison for having a gun and ammo as a convicted felon . Risco also had to hand over the gun and ammo . He pleaded guilty on Sept . 20 , 2023 . According to the plea agreement , on April 27 , 2023 , Risco ran from a deputy on his bike after breaking traffic laws . The deputy caught him and found a loaded Taurus pistol in his waistband . Risco had previous felony convictions that made it illegal for him to have a gun or ammo . He was also on court - ordered supervision at the time . The Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives investigated the case , and Assistant U . S . Attorney Mark Morgan prosecuted it . This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods , a program that brings together law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer . The Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy for Project Safe Neighborhoods on May 26 , 2021 .
