The trophy , a prestigious silver cup , is shared between the regiments , with the current winner retaining possession until the next competition . The competition got put on hold in 1940 when both units had to serve overseas in World War II . They didn ' t pick it up again until 1958 , and since then , the battalions have been competing every year until 2023 , when they both got deployed overseas again . The 69th went to the Horn of Africa and the 182nd went to the Middle East . Lt . Col . Adam Bojarski , the commander of the 69th , said , "It ' s cool that we have this tradition that we keep doing every year . With everything going digital nowadays , we ' ve lost some of our traditions , so it ' s important to keep this one alive .
