The Department of Labor has recovered $134K in tips , overtime wages , and damages after finding that a restaurant owner in Hawaii was shortchanging their workers . The restaurant , L&L Hawaiian Barbecue , has also been fined $5 , 685 . The investigation revealed that the owner , Hui Bing Zhang , was illegally keeping a portion of employee tips and underpaying their overtime earnings . The Department of Labor is determined to combat wage theft in the restaurant industry and other sectors of the economy . Workers can check if they are owed back wages using the division ' s online tool , and both employers and workers can seek assistance from the Wage and Hour Division . The department also offers a Timesheet App to ensure accurate hours and pay .
