In a more laid - back announcement , U . S . Attorney Ronald C . Gathe , Jr . shared that Jaylon Jamare Smullen , a 23 - year - old from Denham Springs , got sentenced to 108 months in federal prison . Smullen was found guilty of access device fraud and inducing a false statement while applying for a firearm . The court also ordered Smullen to serve three years of supervised release after his prison term and pay $27 , 836 . 11 in restitution to 49 victims . Smullen ' s guilty plea revealed that he came up with a scheme to fraudulently obtain firearms and parts from licensed dealers . To make it work , he recruited straw purchasers to fill out the necessary paperwork , using stolen credit card information to fund his scheme . The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives and the Baton Rouge City Police Department , with Assistant United States Attorneys Kristin Lundin Craig and Lyman E . Thornton III prosecuting the case .
