From the Mayor’s Desk
Read below to learn more about initiatives my administration is working on , resources for Stamford residents , information about upcoming events , and important city and state information .
The FY24 - 25 City of Stamford budget season is underway! Right now , we are reviewing each city department’s operating budgets to ensure we are investing in my administration’s key priorities , while also maintaining sound fiscal responsibility .
As part of our effort to ensure Stamford remains one of the safest cities in our region , we are enhancing investments in public safety in this year’s budget . My budget presentation is on Wednesday , March 6th . Stay tuned for more information about how to watch the presentation and attend future public hearings during the budget process .
Weekly Local Business Spotlight:

Each week I will highlight one of our incredible small businesses that received one of the 176 Stamford COVID - 19 relief grants .

MAYOR’S UPDATES
Swearing in Fire Chief Morris:
It was an honor to swear in Rex Morris as the Stamford Fire Department ' s new Fire Chief . Chief Morris has had a distinguished career in the fire service that spans over 50 years , having served in a variety of leadership positions in the New York City Fire Department as well as Assistant Chief of Volunteer Services for the Stamford Fire Department . I am confident he will lead the brave men and women of the Stamford Fire Department with excellence and integrity .
Coffee with the Mayor:
Thank you to everyone who came to meet with me this morning at Coffee with the Mayor . It was great to meet with so many of you and to share concerns about our community .
Stamford Veterans Resource Center One - Year Anniversary:
Last week (
February 15th ) was the one - year anniversary of the opening of the Stamford Veterans Resource Center . This center stands as a testament to the City of Stamford’s unwavering commitment to the men and women who have served our nation with honor and valor . In its first year , the Veterans Resource Center has been instrumental in providing resources and services to hundreds of Stamford’s veterans , including through free blood pressure screenings , housing , food , and medical assistance , vaccinations , mental health services , basic hygiene and cold weather necessities , and important workshops on a variety of different topics , ensuring veterans are aware of the state and federal resources available to them due to their heroic service to our country . Thank you to Carmen Hughes and all the veterans and volunteers who give their time to support the work of the Veterans Resource Center – we could not do it without you!

We are seeking artwork logo designs for the Mayor ' s Literacy Initiative and the contest is open to all students K - 12 who live in or attend school in Stamford . The entry deadline is

Black History Month Vendor Fair:
To celebrate Black History month , the City of Stamford will host a Black small business vendor fair on Wednesday , February 28th from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm at Government Center to highlight some local small black businesses . Stamford Transportation Center Master Plan:
Our administration has been meeting with the Connecticut Department of Transportation and city transportation officials to continue to make progress on the Stamford Train Station Master Plan . To view the Stamford Transportation Center Master Plan , visit:

Safe Boating Class:
The Stamford Regional Fire School is now offering the State of Connecticut safe boating courses . The first class will be on Saturday , April 13th . Get your safe boating certificate before the boating season begins! Class size is limited to 24 students . Additional dates will be added based on demand .

St . Patrick ' s Day Parade:
The St . Patrick’s Day Parade will take place
on Saturday , March 2 at 2:00 pm! Bring your loved ones to the perfect family - friendly spot on Summer Street between North Street and Broad Street . Enjoy the festive atmosphere with colorful floats , lively music , and the spirit of St . Patrick ' s Day! Don ' t miss out on the joyous celebration – mark your calendars and get ready for an afternoon filled with laughter , cheers , and Irish charm!
Kids Helping Kids Hope Day:
Tomorrow , Saturday , February 24th from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm at UCONN Stamford , Kids Helping Kids ( KHK ) is proud to present the 2nd Annual Hope Day . The event is a free community event initiated by KHK volunteers who want to create a space for residents to learn about all the mental health resources available to them . More than 30 vendors to be there and share information about the services their organization provides , as well as opportunities for the public to learn more about the calming effects of YOGA , building confidence and a positive self - image .
