Weekly Local Business Spotlight:Empowered Learning Transformation Center
Each week I will highlight one of our incredible small businesses that received one of the 176 Stamford COVID - 19 relief grants .
Empowered Learning Transformation Centeruses a holistic approach and the latest research and development in neurology and neuroplasticity , rewiring the brain , to help students have better learning outcomes . With the aim of empowering children to improve their learning skills without heavy medication use , their variety of programs including in - center , hybrid , online , and memory and learning strategy courses are tailored to ultimately help learners gain the essential skills that will help them engage with and learn content .
MAYOR’S UPDATES
Northeast Corridor Rail Discussion:It was great to join Gov . Lamont , CTDOT Commissioner Eucalitto , Federal Railroad Administration Administrator Amit Bose , Amtrak CEO Stephen Cardner , and MTA Metro - North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi for a discussion about the future of rail service on the Northeast Corridor . Stamford is a key transit hub on the Northeast Corridor , the nation’s most densely populated region , and supports $3 trillion in economic output . I look forward to continuing to work with our state and federal partners to ensuring these long - term investments , and making sure Stamford has fast and efficient rail service .
2023 Teacher of the Year:I was pleased with the opportunity to present Elba Sims with a proclamation in recognition of being named 2023 Stamford Teacher of the Year . Elba is a remarkable teacher who runs the New Arrivals class , teaching students who have just arrived in the US from various countries around the world . Elba’s dedication , compassion , and love for her students shines through in all that she does , and we are grateful to have her as a teacher with Stamford Public Schools .
Climate Action Summit:Last week we hosted our first Climate Action Summit , where key stakeholders from both the private and public sectors discussed how we can work together on shared sustainability goals , and on addressing the climate . Check out

Youth Mental Health Alliance:Last week , I joined community and nonprofit leaders at the Winter Convening of the Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance ( YMHA ) to launch its first public awareness campaign – “Don’t carry it alone . We’ve got you . ” The campaign is designed to reach families , children , and the public with important information about youth mental health and resources available in the Stamford community .

Stamford Police Promotion Ceremony:
Last week I was honored to join Stamford Police Chief Shaw for the promotion of officers Captain Eugene Dohmann , Lieutenant Kristen Engstrand , Sergeant Connor Pennoyer , and Sergeant Charlie Williams . Thank you for all you do , and congratulations!

I - 95 PEL Study Virtual Public Meetings:
The Connecticut Department of Transportation ( CTDOT ) is hosting two virtual public meetings for the I - 95 Stamford Planning and Environment Linkages ( PEL ) Study . The meetings will be hosted on Zoom and by telephone on February 21st at 6:00 pm and February 22nd at 12:00 pm . The Zoom login and telephone call in information for each meeting will be posted at

Kids Helping Kids:On Saturday , February 24
thfrom 12 pm – 3 pm at UCONN , Kids Helping Kids ( KHK ) is proud to present the 2nd annual Hope Day . The event is a free community event initiated by KHK volunteers who wanted to create a space for residents to learn about all the mental health resources available to them . More than 30 vendors to be there and share information about the services their organization provides , as well as opportunities for the public to learn more about the calming effects of YOGA , building confidence and a positive self - image .
