Weekly Local Business Spotlight:
CrossFit Stamford
Each week I will highlight one of our incredible small businesses that received one of the 176 Stamford COVID - 19 relief grants .
CrossFit Stamford is led by Nick and Jessica DellaCamera , and they and their team specialize in optimizing the health and performance of driven professionals . This Sunday , Jessica is offering for the first time an Intro to CrossFit class in Spanish . Intended to help those who have unable to try CrossFit because of the language barrier .

MAYOR’S UPDATES
Arts and Culture Grants Ceremony:
I was thrilled to honor the 26 recipients of the 2024 Stamford Arts and Culture Grant . Grantees were selected for funding based on their commitment to providing quality programs that are accessible , diverse , and innovative for Stamford residents . I look forward to visiting many of these programs , and seeing firsthand how they enrich the lives and experiences of our residents!
2023 Teacher of the Year:I was pleased with the opportunity to present Elba Sims with a proclamation in recognition of being named 2023 Stamford Teacher of the Year . Elba is a remarkable teacher who runs the New Arrivals class , teaching students who have just arrived in the US from various countries around the world . Elba’s dedication , compassion , and love for her students shines through in all that she does , and we are grateful to have her as a teacher with Stamford Public Schools .
Equinor Visit:It was great to meet with the team at Equinor , a leading multinational energy company which employs 150 people in Stamford . It was great to learn more about the work they do and discuss potential partnership opportunities related to workforce development and sustainability .
Climate Action Summit:This week we hosted our first Climate Action Summit , where key stakeholders from both the private and public sector discussed how we can work together on shared sustainability goals , and on addressing the climate crisis .
Youth Mental Health Alliance:This week , I joined community and nonprofit leaders at the Winter Convening of the Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance ( YMHA ) to launch its first public awareness campaign – “Don’t carry it alone . We’ve got you . ” The campaign is designed to reach families , children , and the public with important information about youth mental health and resources available in the Stamford community .

Stamford Police Promotion Ceremony:I was honored to join Stamford Police Chief Shaw for the promotion of officers Captain Eugene Dohmann , Lieutenant Kristen Engstrand , Sergeant Connor Pennoyer , and Sergeant Charlie Williams . Congratulations to all!

THIS Saturday – The Fire and Ice Festival:
Stamford Downtown will host the Fire & Ice Festival this Saturday , January 27
th
. This event will feature fire pits and ice sculpting demonstrations featuring ice sculptors and outdoor and indoor dining at restaurants surrounding Columbus Park including:
Acuario Restaurant , The Americano , Columbus Park Trattoria , Fiesta on Main , FIN II Japanese Restaurant , Kouzina Greek Taverna , Noches de Colombia , Riviera Maya Mexican Restaurant , and more . For more information click

Prelude:Visit Mill River Park until January 28
thfrom 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm as world - renowned Finnish light artist , Kari Kola launches a thrilling light display in Mill River Park . In collaboration with Community Curator Fernando Luis Alvarez and the Mill River Park Collaborative , this free - to - the - public walk - through experience will mark Kola ' s debut in the United States .
Small Business Resource Forum:
Current and future business owners are invited to the Small Business Resource Forum on February 14 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Ferguson Library . All are encouraged to bring business cards , a computer , questions , and requests . The event is free , but registration is required . Click
