MAYOR CAROLINE SIMMONS DECLARES SNOW EMERGENCY FOR THE CITY OF STAMFORD
Stamford , CT
– Mayor Caroline Simmons has declared a snow emergency , effective at 9:00 p . m . tonight ahead of the snowstorm expected to begin overnight and continue through Tuesday , February 13
th
. The snow emergency declaration will extend through 8:00 pm on February 14
th
.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for our area starting at 1:00 am on Tuesday , February 13
th
until 6:00 pm , with snow accumulation of 9 - 12 inches possible . Wind gusts could reach as high as 40 mph and could bring down tree branches . Hazardous driving conditions should be expected overnight Tuesday and throughout the day . Residents are encouraged to stay off the roads so that city crews can clear them . If travel is necessary , use caution while driving .
The Snow Emergency will require the removal of all vehicles on designated snow emergency streets . City parking garages will be open and free of charge starting Monday night at 9:00 pm until Wednesday , February 14
th
at 8:00 pm .
“Snow is forecast to begin overnight , with accumulation increasing through the morning tomorrow , ” said Mayor Simmons . “We are declaring a snow emergency to give residents time to prepare and get their cars off the streets . Heavy snow is predicted and will make travel hazardous , and I encourage all residents to stay home to allow road crews to clear the streets . High wind gusts may lead to downed trees and wires and residents should be prepared and make sure you have a plan if the power goes out . ”
Snow Emergency
During the snow emergency , snow emergency routes are to be kept clear of cars . Snow emergency routes are clearly marked with red and white signage . Vehicles will be ticketed and towed while the snow emergency is in effect . All city garages will be open and free to residents during the snow emergency , starting from Monday at 9:00 pm to Wednesday at 8:00 pm .

Garbage and Recycling
Scheduled residential garbage and recycling collection for Tuesday will be delayed one day until Wednesday , February 14th . The scheduled collection for the rest of the week will also be delayed one day , with Friday’s scheduled collection to be collected on Saturday .
In anticipation of the storm , residents should not put their Toters curbside tonight .
Alternate Parking Rules
As a reminder , on the streets designated below , alternate side parking rules will automatically take effect each time there is snow accumulation greater than two inches . The alternate side parking will take effect regardless of whether a snow emergency has been declared . The purpose of these rules is to facilitate snow removal by providing adequate maneuvering space for snow removal equipment on narrow roadways .
When in effect , on even numbered calendar days , parking will be allowed on the even numbered side of the street and restricted on the odd numbered side of the street from 8:00 am until 8:00 am the following day .
