☷US Department of Labor recovers $200K for employee illegally terminated by Georgia county health agency for exercising rights to protected leave

The US Department of Labor has managed to get $200 , 000 back for an employee who was fired by Cobb & Douglas Public Health in Georgia for taking protected leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act . The health agency failed to inform the worker of their eligibility for FMLA leave , didn ' t provide the necessary paperwork , and terminated the employee soon after they requested it . The Department of Labor is reminding employers that they can ' t deny employees their legal rights to take leave for personal or family medical reasons . In the last fiscal year , the department concluded 334 FMLA cases with violations , resulting in over $987 , 000 in back wages for workers .
