   The US Department of Labor has recovered $180 , 000 in wages and damages for 22 workers who were denied overtime pay by a Sacramento restaurant employer , Taqueria Los Inmortales . The restaurant was also fined $7 , 980 . The investigation found that the employer did not pay employees the required overtime wages for hours worked beyond 40 per week , as mandated by the Fair Labor Standards Act . The employer paid overtime hours at regular rates in cash and failed to keep accurate records . The Department of Labor is committed to helping restaurant employers and workers understand their rights and obligations under the law to avoid costly violations . Workers can check if they are owed back wages using the Workers Owed Wages search tool , and both employers and workers can seek assistance from the Wage and Hour Division at 1 - 866 - 4 - US - WAGE .
