☷South Florida Man Indicted by Federal Grand Jury for Firearm Offense in Relation to Shooting at the Palm Beach Gardens Mall

MIAMI - Kamarcio Mitchell , a 28 - year - old from West Palm Beach , has been charged by a federal grand jury for unlawfully having a gun and bullets as a felon . The charges come after Mitchell was arrested on February 16 following a joint response by local , state , and federal authorities to a shooting at the Palm Beach Gardens Mall on Valentine ' s Day . According to the criminal complaint and indictment , Mitchell was at the mall with a firearm and was caught on surveillance video . He followed another man and was seen hiding something under his shirt . The other man then shot Mitchell , who ran away leaving a trail of blood . The police found a disassembled loaded gun in the parking lot near where Mitchell fled . Mitchell , who has a criminal record , is being charged as an Armed Career Criminal and could face a minimum of 15 years in prison if convicted . He has agreed to stay in custody until a future hearing to determine bond . The arraignment hearing is set for March 5 . The indictment was announced by U . S . Attorney Markenzy Lapointe , FBI Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey B . Veltri , ATF Special Agent in Charge Christopher A . Robinson , U . S . Marshal Gadyaces S . Serralta , Palm Beach Gardens Police Chief Clinton Shannon , and Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw . The Office of State Attorney Dave Aronberg for the 15th Judicial Circuit - Palm Beach County provided valuable assistance , and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys John McMillan and Shannon O ' Shea Darsch . This prosecution is part of the U . S . Department of Justice ' s Project Safe Neighborhoods program , which aims to reduce violent crime .
