During the second week of Project Convergence - Capstone 4 at Camp Pendleton , California on February 29 , 2024 , a group of subject matter experts known as the Table of Knowledge are analyzing observations to gain insights . Project Convergence - Capstone 4 is the largest Army - hosted experiment and draws upon insights from previous experiments conducted in various locations around the world . The Table of Knowledge , created in 2022 , acts as the Army ' s think tank and provides key insights for senior leaders to analyze how joint and multinational forces can effectively communicate and win in the future . U . S . Army Lt . Col . Ricky Jones , Maj . Derek Torrez , Jim Bailey , and Russell Lange , all from the U . S . Army Joint Modernization Command , are sharing lessons learned from previous projects and providing insights for PC - C4 . The Table of Knowledge consists of subject matter experts who gather observations through surveys and data collection . Jones , who serves as the assessment branch chief , operational insights lead , and field artillery officer , explains that the Table of Knowledge is like a brain that receives information and translates it into something significant for senior leaders . PC - C4 aims to assess and develop systems , equipment , and technology through ongoing experimentation . This will inform network systems , data - driven decisions , and joint warfighting concepts , ultimately improving capabilities and readiness for the future . Jones emphasizes the importance of persistent experimentation and how the Table of Knowledge carries forward key takeaways and recommendations from previous projects . Torrez serves as the officer in command of the Table of Knowledge during PC - C4 . He collaborates with experts in the Capability Development Integration Directorates to gather insights and communicate them to senior leaders about technologies and concepts being tested in the Army ' s operating concept . PC - C4 includes four different scenarios , such as integrated fires and joint forcible entry operations , that are like scientific experiments with questions and hypotheses . Major Derek Torrez , from the Joint Modernization Command , explained that each scenario has specific objectives that they are trying to answer through experimentation . Over time , these objectives turn into theories and insights when proven repeatedly . The goal is to understand how robots can be utilized within human formations and how different forces can work together effectively . The Table of Knowledge ( ToK ) is expected to provide valuable information on the use of unmanned aircraft systems , robotics , artificial intelligence , and joint and multinational capabilities . The experiment involves thousands of service members and civilians from multiple branches of the military who will collaborate and learn from each other . The ToK also aims to explore the integration of sensors for offensive and defensive fires , as well as how artificial intelligence and machine learning can support decision - making in large - scale combat operations . We ' re working closely with the Marine Corps to collaborate on joint maritime sustainment , including Army watercraft . We ' re also experimenting with the Air Force ' s agile combat employment capabilities . The Navy has their own experimental objectives that they want to achieve , and we ' ll be observing how the Combined Joint Task Force can utilize their command and control capability . Jim Bailey and Russell Lang , analysts from the U . S . Army , recently discussed their latest efforts during Project Convergence – Capstone 4 . Bailey and Lang used to serve as air defense artillery Soldiers in the Cold War , and now they ' re applying their experience to help the think tank become more integrated . They ' ve added use case deputies and operational research system analysts to assist with managing the experiment ' s four use cases . Bailey ' s team has also added observer writers to collect data during the experiment . They ' ve expanded their team to include subject matter experts in various areas like intelligence , space , cyber , fires , and air defense artillery . We ' re also collaborating with allies from the United Kingdom , Australia , Canada , New Zealand , France , and Japan to evaluate technology ' s potential in deterring and defeating threats . For the first time in Project Convergence experimentation , the ToK had a space where our multinational allies and partners could collaborate with the Japanese Ground Self - Defense Force and French Army . We ' re all working together to create documents that will help the Department of Defense , our Joint Services leadership , and Congress make budget decisions . Basically , we ' re reporting on the capabilities we ' re testing today , which will be used by the Army of 2030 . With PC - C4 , we ' re testing interoperability , showing how we ' re transforming , enhancing our abilities to win wars , and helping the Army of 2040 prepare for future battles .
