City of Reno Nevada - Reno Police Urges All Residents to Immediately Avoid Travel 01 January 2100 ( news )

Due to slick , treacherous and wintery road conditions , the
Reno Police Departmentis urging residents to immediately avoid all unnecessary travel on roadways on Saturday , January 6 , 2024 .
As of 8:00 p . m . on Saturday , January 6 , 2024 the Reno Police Traffic Division has responded to over 30 traffic accidents in the region . Reno Police reports that 15 vehicles were involved in several separate crashes and spinouts at the Sierra and 8th Street alone .
Currently there is one road closure in effect:
Keystone Avenue at Seventh Street north and southbound
Other roadways , especially in the North Valleys , have been intermittently shut down throughout the day . Officers hope to fully reopen these roads as soon as conditions allow .
“We are asking all residents to go home and stay home tonight , ” said Commander Daniel Bond , with the Reno Police Department . “Our officers are out working with public work crews to get these roads back in drivable condition , but we need the public to do us a favor and to avoid all travel . ”
City of Reno snowplow operators have been operating since early afternoon and will continue to work throughout the night to plow and sand Reno roadways . There are 12 plows on the roadways as of 8:00 pm . Saturday night .
The City street system is divided into nineteen snowplow routes . Priority is given to arterial and collector streets along with school zones . Secondary streets are plowed after Priority streets as resources become available .
