Councilmember Brekhus Donates $20 , 000 to Good Luck Macbeth Theatre

In support of its
ELEVATE capital campaign
, Councilmember Jenny Brekhus allocated $20 , 000 from Council Discretionary Funds to the Good Luck Macbeth Theatre , a 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) nonprofit organization . Good Luck Macbeth is trying to buy and renovate its existing building at 124 West Taylor Street . Good Luck Macbeth says they hope owning a permanent space will allow them to elevate the community by creating an arts center that can serve all of Reno .
Vice Mayor Duerr Donates $500 to the Nevada Youth Empowerment Project

Vice Mayor Naomi Duerr donated $500 of her Council Discretionary Funds to the
Nevada Youth Empowerment Project ( NYEP ) in support of its mission to support young women who are homeless in the Reno area . The program gives women a chance to reroute their lives through a structured program that provides housing and basic needs , life skills training , opportunities to practice new life skills , and the support and love of a family .
Vice Mayor Duerr Donates $1 , 000 to Noah’s Animal House

Vice Mayor Naomi Duerr donated $1 , 000 of her Council Discretionary Funds to support Noah’s Animal House Foundation . The goal of the organization is to eliminate the ‘No Pets Allowed’ barrier at women ' s shelters , empowering survivors of domestic abuse to rebuild their lives alongside their furry companions .
Council Votes to Abandon Portion of Line Drive

The City of Reno abandoned a portion of Line Drive that currently bisects and terminates into the Nevada Cares Campus . Before recommending the abandonment , City staff analyzed several factors including traffic access , utility impacts and public safety . The abandonment will connect the two Nevada Cares Campus parcels and support the expansion of the Nevada CARES campus .
Council Approves Budget Augmentation for FY 23/24

Council approved a resolution to augment the City of Reno’s FY 23/24 budget . Budget augmentations are a common occurrence as budgets can change during a fiscal year .
Additional appropriations to the General Fund total $12 . 4 million . Of that , $2 . 9 million is related to the addition of grants and reimbursements awarded to the Parks Department , Police Department , Fire Department , and Arts & Culture .
The augmentation includes eight additional positions to the General Fund , including six medic positions for the Reno Fire Department , four maintenance workers to the Street Fund , and two positions to the Sewer Fund , totaling 14 new positions .
Of the total $12 . 4 million augmentation to the General Fund , $5 . 2 million comes from the American Rescue Plan Act ( ARPA ) revenue replacement funds and $4 . 2 million from excess FY 22/23 ending fund balance . These revenue replacement funds and excess fund balance will be used to fund furniture , fixtures , and equipment/technology ( FF&E ) needs for the Public Safety Center and Moana Pool projects , public safety severance and payouts , and additional forensic services costs .
