Hey Susan , thanks for being here . It ' s really clear that you ' ve inherited your mom ' s sense of humor , strength , and love for this country . We ' re also glad to have other members of the Ford family and some of Mrs . Ford ' s friends here . Thanks for joining us . The stamp from the Postmaster General looks amazing . Dr . Lee and the rest of the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation , we appreciate you carrying on Betty ' s work . I ' m excited to have all of you at the White House for this special moment . Becoming a First Lady isn ' t easy , especially overnight . But Betty Ford embraced the role and stayed true to herself . She was exactly what the country needed - warm , charming , and genuine . She helped restore our faith in government . Betty ' s time in the White House may have been short , but she made a lasting impact . She spoke her mind , supported important causes , and even installed her own phone line to advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment . She showed incredible courage and vulnerability by going public about her breast cancer and mastectomy . Her actions saved countless lives . After leaving the White House , she continued to inspire by being open about her battle with addiction . She brought light to darkness and gave others the strength to face their own struggles . Her story teaches us that life is unpredictable and we have the power to find redemption . Betty gave us hope for a brighter future . I really believe that even when things seem really hopeless , people have an amazing ability to keep going . Like they say at the Betty Ford Center: if Betty could do it , so can I . Mrs . Ford once wrote that being remembered with happiness is like living forever . I bet if she was here now , she ' d make a joke about having her own forever stamp . Susan , it ' s such a privilege to celebrate your mom today . She touched the lives of so many and will always be in our hearts . Thank you .
