Hey y ' all! U . S . Attorney Roger B . Handberg just announced that Allen Tereal Grimes , a 33 - year - old from Keystone Heights , has been indicted for having ammunition as a convicted felon . If he ' s found guilty , Grimes could be looking at up to 15 years in the slammer . The indictment also mentions that the U . S . plans to take away the ammo , claiming it was connected to his crime . Grimes appeared in court on March 4 and was told to stay put . According to the indictment , on August 11 , 2023 , Grimes had some Winchester 9mm ammo . But here ' s the kicker , Grimes already had seven previous felony convictions , including assaulting a cop and fleeing from the law . As a result , he ' s not allowed to have a gun or ammo under federal law . Now , let me make something clear , an indictment is just a fancy way of saying someone ' s been formally charged with a federal crime , and everyone ' s presumed innocent until proven guilty , got it? The Clay County Sheriff ' s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives - Jacksonville Office worked on this investigation . Assistant U . S . Attorney Kevin C . Frein will be prosecuting the case . This whole thing is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , a program that brings together law enforcement and communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhoods safer . The Department of Justice launched a new strategy for PSN on May 26 , 2021 , with the goal of strengthening the program and making a real impact .
