The owner of 20 Hwy 55 Burgers , Shakes & Fries restaurants has made a deal with the U . S . They were found to have employed children outside of allowed hours and assigned them dangerous tasks . As part of the agreement , the company must take steps to ensure compliance at all their locations and pay $11K in penalties for the violations . The Department of Labor emphasized the importance of protecting young workers and ensuring they are not put in harm ' s way . The Fair Labor Standards Act allows young people to have appropriate work opportunities , but it also has important rules to keep them safe . The Little Mint Inc . , based in Mt . To avoid these consequences , employers should seek guidance from the local Wage and Hour Division office . The YouthRules! initiative provides information to youth , parents , employers , and educators about protections for young workers and promotes positive work experiences . The Wage and Hour Division has also published best practices for employers to help them comply with child labor laws . For more information or assistance , workers and employers can call the division ' s helpline in over 200 languages .
