☷Pennsylvania Resident Sentenced to Statutory Maximum of 30 Years in Prison for Shooting Death of Oconee County Man

A guy from Pennsylvania named Ahkil Crumpton , also known as "Crump , " was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for his role in the shooting death of a man in Oconee County . He was found guilty by a jury and won ' t be eligible for parole . He ' s also facing state charges for murder in Georgia . The FBI and ATF were involved in the investigation and helped connect Crumpton to the crime using technology . According to court documents , Crumpton entered a gas station in Watkinsville , Georgia , where the victim was working as a clerk , and shot him while attempting a robbery . Crumpton shot Wood in a store , but didn ' t take anything . Wood ' s girlfriend witnessed the shooting on a FaceTime call . Later , Crumpton was involved in another shooting in Philadelphia where he was also robbed . He was arrested in March 2022 and found with the same gun used in both shootings . Crumpton used to play football at UGA and lived near the store where Wood was killed . His roommate testified that Crumpton came home after the shooting , upset about what happened . Crumpton explained that when he lifted the gun , it accidentally went off . He was scared for his own safety and didn ' t tell anyone . In July 2021 , he returned to his hometown of Philadelphia . His co - defendant , James North Armstrong , testified that Crumpton was a client at his tattoo studio and asked him to buy a gun . Armstrong admitted to illegally purchasing the gun for Crumpton and now faces a maximum of ten years in prison and a $250 , 000 fine . Armstrong will be sentenced on March 20 . Crumpton was initially charged with four federal crimes , but two of the charges were dismissed before trial . The case was made possible by leads from the ATF ' s NIBIN , a national network that helps solve and prevent crimes involving firearms . The investigation was conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies , with assistance from the U . S . Attorney ' s Office .
