Camp Ripley Training Center recently hosted the 51st annual Norwegian Reciprocal Troop Exchange between the Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian Home Guard Rapid Reaction Force and the Home Defense Youth . During the exchange , soldiers from both countries had the opportunity to train together and learn from each other . The Minnesota National Guard instructor emphasized the benefits of training with different forces and how it helps improve skills and tactics . The exchange included winter training exercises and cultural events in both Norway and Minnesota . Camp Ripley provided various activities and training opportunities for the Norwegian troops , who were excited to learn new skills and experience American hospitality . Overall , the exchange was a positive experience for both the Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian troops , fostering camaraderie and mutual learning . During their 51st exchange , the troops from the Minnesota National Guard and the Norwegian Home Guard realized they had a lot in common , both in terms of military operations and culture . Norwegian RRF Lt . Peder Strand pointed out that the main difference he noticed was the abundance of resources and the size of the camp compared to his county back home . However , he also emphasized the similarities , such as the dedication and initiative shown by the people involved . When faced with challenges , they always find alternative solutions . The training concluded with Norwegian and Minnesota National Guard members practicing modern tactical and urban operations they had learned during their two weeks at Camp Ripley . Staff Sgt . Haley mentioned that the highlight so far has been the positive attitude and willingness to learn displayed by the Norwegians , which has influenced their own approach . They expect this partnership to continue improving going forward . The Minnesota Guard and Norway have been partners since 2023 under the Department of Defense National Guard Bureau State Partnership Program .
