☷Jefferson Parish Man Pleads Guilty to Violations of the Federal Gun Control and Controlled Substances Acts

Darren Flowers , a 25 - year - old from Metairie , pleaded guilty on January 3 in front of Judge Jane T . Milazzo for drug and weapons charges . Specifically , he admitted to conspiring to distribute and possess cocaine and marijuana , possessing cocaine with intent to distribute , and possessing a firearm for drug trafficking . Court documents reveal that on January 6 , 2022 , law enforcement agencies conducted surveillance and witnessed Flowers selling drugs to customers in Metairie . When approached by detectives , he ran and dropped a loaded handgun during the chase . When caught , he had cocaine and cash on him . Flowers could face up to 20 years in prison , a hefty fine , and supervised release for his drug convictions . Additionally , his possession of a firearm charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years up to life in prison , along with a fine and supervised release . This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , a program focused on reducing violent crime and gun violence . The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol , Firearms , Tobacco , and Explosives and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office , with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorney David Berman .
