In 2015 the Town of Arlington adopted its
current Master Plan
, which established the future vision for planning and development within Arlington . The Master Plan serves as a guide for land use and development decisions and included a ten - year implementation strategy to achieve that vision . Claire Ricker , Director of the Department of Planning and Community Development , is excited to announce the official kickoff of the Arlington Master Plan Update ( AMPUp ) with an informational webinar to discuss the Town’s achievements since the adoption of the 2015 Master Plan . In addition , there will be a Master Planning 101 presentation to help residents and stakeholders understand the importance of the Master Plan and why an update is critical to ensuring its goals continue to align with the community’s vision for Arlington .
“Arlington has become a leader among municipalities for its forward - thinking policies and so much credit goes to the incredible support from the community , ” said Ricker . “Under the guidance of the 2015 Master Plan Arlington has committed to become carbon - neutral by 2050 , adopted a Sustainable Transportation Plan to expand our multi - modal transportation network to safely move people throughout Arlington and beyond , established mechanisms to create more affordable housing options , and enhanced local business programs that support the vibrancy of our commercial districts . Now , it ' s time to envision what we want to accomplish over the next decade . ”
The Master Plan Update virtual informational webinar will be hosted on February 29th from 6:00 - 7:00 p . m . This is a great opportunity to learn about the Master Planning process , how resident participation can help shape the future direction of Arlington , and learn how residents and business owners can apply to join the Arlington Master Plan Update Committee . Anyone interested is encouraged to attend . Advance registration to this virtual webinar is required at

Applications for the AMPUp committee will be available March 1 - April 15 . The Town plans to make committee member selections by the end of April . There will be several neighborhood engagement opportunities in the coming months as the Town gathers community input . An request for proposal ( RFP ) will be issued in the fall and a consultant selected by the end of the year . The goal is to bring the Master Plan Update to the 2026 Town Meeting for approval .
