Town of Arlington Massachusetts - Organizers Thank Participants for Another Successful Lunar New Year Celebration 08 February 2024 ( news )

On Thursday January 25th , the Town of Arlington welcomed community groups and residents to Town Hall to celebrate the Lunar New Year . This is the second time the Town has hosted the celebration that uplifts one of the most important celebrations in many Asian cultures . The celebration was organized by the Diversity , Equity and Inclusion ( DEI ) Division and our community partner , Enhance Asian Community on Health ( EACH ) . The first half of the program featured crafts and activities that engaged attendees of all ages . Followed by performances by EACH , the AHS Mandarin Class , the Ottoson Middle School Mandarin Class , and the Asian American Coalition student group who regaled the crowd with Peking Opera , Chinese dance , Mandarin songs , and traditional instruments such as jinghu , banhu , and erhu . The celebration was enjoyed by upwards of 250 residents of all ages .
“Celebrating Lunar New Year in the Town of Arlington is a significant cultural event that fosters community unity and multicultural appreciation . This holiday is about the start of a new year , a time for fun and learning about different traditions . ” said Sara Tan , ED of EACH and the co - coordinator of the celebration . “It ' s not just for people with Asian roots but for everybody in Arlington . The Town of Arlington values different cultures and wants everyone to feel included . It ' s an excellent way for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect with and learn from each other . The Town of Arlington cares about all its residents and their unique stories . It builds a stronger and more united community . ”
