Civic Academies are community engagement and educational opportunities conducted by municipalities across the country to encourage civic engagement and provide educational materials for the public on how Town government operates . In the spring of 2024 Arlington is conducting its second Civic Academy .   
   Participants will gain knowledge of how the Town works and the role they can play in town government .   
   Each course will provide an overview of government operations led by Town officials with discussion and/or a hands - on activity and is geared to provide information to those who are interested in joining a Town committee or may want to run for Town Meeting or other elected office .  
   Academy Overview
   Meet six consecutive weeks , Thursday evenings , 6:00 p . m . - 8:00 p . m . , April 25 – May 30
   Enrollment of up to 20 participants .  
   Classes will be held in ADA accessible municipal buildings in Arlington .   
   Light refreshments will be served .  
   Curriculum Overview
   April 25: Overview of Town governance and Town operations .   
   May 2: Arlington Public Schools and Libraries  
   May 9: Public Works Inspectional Services Fire and Police 
   May 16: How to Get Involved | Town Clerk , Health & Human Services , and Department of Planning and Community Development .
   May 23: Recreation and Budget and Finance
   May 30: Graduation 
   Requirements for Participation:
   Must be a current resident of Arlington .  
   Must be 18 years of age or older .
   All Arlington residents are welcome to apply , but preference will be given to those residents with less than 3 years of experience serving on a Town committee or in Town Meeting .
