A guy named Geoffrey Scott Carter from Jacksonville got sentenced to 15 years in federal prison by Senior U . S . District Judge Henry L . Adams . He was busted for being involved in a drug conspiracy and for having a gun as a convicted felon . The court also made him give up 10 firearms and some ammo . Carter admitted his guilt on March 28 , 2023 . This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods ( PSN ) , a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities and making our neighborhoods safer . After he got out , a confidential source working with the cops bought drugs from Carter four times at Carter ' s house in Jacksonville . In total , Carter sold the source about 645 grams of meth , 3 grams of fentanyl , and a Colt revolver . But Carter wasn ' t allowed to have guns because of his past convictions . The Bureau of Alcohol , Tobacco , Firearms and Explosives , the Drug Enforcement Administration , the St . Johns County Sheriff’s Office , the St . Augustine Beach Police Department , and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office all worked on this case . Assistant U . S . Attorney Michael J . Coolican handled the prosecution . Here ' s what happened: On August 5 , 2022 , a cop in St . Johns County pulled over an SUV for a traffic violation . The only people in the car were the driver and Carter . A police dog sniffed around the SUV and alerted the officer to the presence of illegal drugs . They searched the car and found two loaded guns ( one of them had been reported stolen ) , around 36 grams of meth , 21 grams of cocaine , 3 grams of ecstasy , 3 grams of weed , a scale , syringes , and baggies . The driver said he didn ' t know about the drugs , but he did confirm that Carter was a drug dealer . When they searched Carter , they found brass knuckles in his pocket and an empty gun holster on him . He said the holster was for his cigarettes . Carter got arrested for some state crimes , but he got out on bond pretty quickly . On May 26 , 2021 , the Department of Justice rolled out a plan to tackle violent crime . They ' re all about building trust in our communities , backing organizations that stop violence before it happens , setting clear priorities for law enforcement , and keeping tabs on the outcomes .
