The US Department of Labor has recovered $155K in back wages and damages from a Kansas supermarket that denied overtime to 158 workers . The employer , Supermart El Torito Inc . , located at 1409 Central Avenue in Kansas City , Kansas , was found to have violated the Fair Labor Standards Act ' s overtime provisions . The investigation revealed that employees were not properly compensated for working over 40 hours a week , and the employer failed to keep accurate time records . Supermart El Torito has been assessed with $187 , 546 in civil money penalties for repeat violations . Wage and Hour District Director Reed Trone stated that when employers knowingly withhold wages , they are essentially taking money out of their employees ' pockets . The Wage and Hour Division offers resources for those who believe they are owed back wages and provides an online complaint filing option . Additionally , they have a mobile app available for iOS and Android devices to ensure accurate tracking of hours and pay .
