In Alaska , where earthquakes are a big concern , the National Guard recently held Exercise Vigilant Guard 2024 - 2 to test their readiness . The simulation involved a massive earthquake scenario , with various agencies working together to practice their response . The exercise highlighted the importance of coordination and preparation for disasters , with different units and organizations coming together to support relief efforts . The Alaska National Guard utilized resources like the Disaster Relief Beddown System and a mobile kitchen to aid in the response . Overall , the exercise helped participants prepare for future challenges and strengthen partnerships within the community . "Disasters like this bring a lot of chaos and you often don ' t know what to expect , " said Staff Sgt . Kua Xiong , a culinary specialist assigned to the 176th Force Support Squadron . “Our goal is to make life easier and nourish those affected by disasters like this . ” Through the Vigilant Guard exercise , all branches and departments have a better understanding of their role and know how to communicate effectively during a crisis . “We will be ready to take care of the people of Alaska on their worst day , ” Radford said . “Our goal in this exercise was to prepare to respond when the state needs us to relieve suffering and care for the people of Alaska as part of a federal approach . This requires a team effort . ”
