Hey everyone , thanks for having me . Take a seat , take a seat . Can you hear me okay? Alright , good afternoon , it feels good to be back home and surrounded by friends . I ' ve been traveling a lot lately and somehow lost my voice along the way , but don ' t worry , I ' ll find it again . Thanks to Sheldon and Adrienne for hosting us today . The environmental movement here in the Bay Area is something we should all be proud of . It ' s all about urgency , innovation , and creating new opportunities . I ' m really excited about the clean energy economy and the impact it ' s having not just locally , but around the world . We need to continue pushing for innovation and job creation in this sector . I recently spoke at the Munich Security Conference and was asked about our investment in the clean energy economy . It ' s important to show that supporting American businesses and clean energy initiatives is not contrary to our commitments to our allies and partnerships around the world . And I was like , then — and I didn ' t have to do it again this year because it became obvious . And I was like , then: No , our commitment is all about investing in our workforce , investing in innovation , investing in the businesses that will do this work , knowing that it will benefit the whole world . Not only are we setting an example for how these businesses can thrive and create opportunities , free from past burdens , but we ' re also sharing our commitment to innovation with the world , so they can replicate and build upon it . It ' s really exciting what ' s happening in our country , not just for strengthening communities , but also as a model for the world . So , I ' m really pumped about what ' s going on . And of course , we have an election coming up . ( Laughs . ) And on this issue and many others , I ' ll tell you , there ' s a huge difference in how we approach addressing climate change and investing in our economies to create a thriving clean energy sector . There ' s a major difference . Unfortunately , with the Inflation Reduction Act , not a single Republican in Congress voted for it , because this has somehow become a partisan issue . When we compare where we stand on these issues , calling out the history of greenwashing , denial , and delay , and advocating for smart and aggressive public policies , there ' s a big difference . So , when we think about this election and others , I always challenge people to look at the split screen . On one hand , with our administration , the Biden - Harris administration , we are committed to and have shown our dedication to investing in what we know is best for our future generations , our economies , and our workforce . On the other hand , we have a situation where there has been denial , delay , and greenwashing in how we actually achieve our goals . So , I ' m grateful for all your support in our reelection and the work we ' re doing . I also have to mention that , as many of you know , we ' re also fighting for our democracy on a fundamental level . Right now , there ' s an agenda in our country that I believe is a full - on attack on the hard - fought freedoms and rights we have . So , in this election , we all have to think about what kind of country we want to live in . Do we want a country that values freedom , justice , and equality? There ' s a lot at stake . I was in Selma recently , remembering Bloody Sunday , when young civil rights leaders fought for voting rights . There ' s a push against voting rights now , like in Georgia where they made it illegal to give food and water to people waiting in line to vote . It ' s important to love thy neighbor and support each other . I admire Gen Z because they ' ve only known the climate crisis and deal with "climate anxiety . " They ' ve also grown up with active shooter drills and fear of gun violence , so we need common - sense gun laws . It ' s a fact that many people have personally experienced the impact of important rights being taken away by the highest court in the country . It ' s hard to hear , but during their prime years for having children , they saw their right to make decisions about their own bodies taken away . This has created a stark contrast in beliefs and values between different sides of the political spectrum . The former President has openly admitted to appointing Supreme Court justices with the goal of overturning Roe v . Wade , which is concerning for many . There are also concerns about potential cuts to Social Security , Medicare , and Medicaid , which could greatly affect seniors who rely on these programs . The upcoming election is crucial in determining the future of our country and what values we want to uphold . It ' s important to focus on lifting people up rather than tearing them down , and to consider what kind of country we want to live in . Thank you for your support in standing up for our democracy .
