Lewisville Parks and Recreation Department ( PARD ) received five statewide awards at this week’s Texas Recreation and Park Society ( TRAPS ) conference in Galveston , including the organization’s top individual award and a gold medal for sustained excellence by the department .
   PARD Director Stacie Anaya was presented with the Dan Whitworth Fellow award , the highest honor bestowed by TRAPS . Recipients have been a member of TRAPS and given outstanding service to the parks and recreation field for a minimum of 10 years .
   As stated in the nomination , Anaya “is the epitome of a dedicated parks and recreation professional , serving as a mentor and role model to many . Stacie has made it a priority to dedicate an enormous amount of time and energy to shaping the fields of parks and recreation into what it is today and what it will become in the future . ”
   Anaya joined Lewisville in May 2017 after stints in Austin , Eagle Pass , and Corpus Christi . She also has served in leadership roles for the Texas Municipal League , Texas Parks and Wildlife Department State Advisory Committee , and other regional and local organizations . On a national level , Anaya is a Commission for Accreditation of Parks and Recreation Agencies ( CAPRA ) Visitor and serves as a member of the Mentoring and Justice , Equity , Diversity , and Inclusion committees with the American Academy of Parks and Recreation Administration .
   Other awards received by Lewisville PARD include:
   Texas Gold Medal - Class II
   The Texas Gold Medal awards are modeled after those of the National Recreation and Park Association . These awards honor departments for excellence in the field of recreation and park management for the past three years .
   Educator Outstanding Performance - Dr . Lauren Fischer , UNT
   This award is presented to a candidate who conducted research that contributed new knowledge to the field and actively disseminated this information to parks and recreation practitioners through writing or presentations . She was nominated for her work with Lewisville’s Healthy Infrastructure Plan .
   Maintenance Achievement Award - Pollinator Median Conversions
   This award recognizes creativity or innovation in the development of unique equipment to solve a particular problem; the development or discovery of a material or chemical to solve a problem; or the development and implementation of a system or process to maintain a park , building , pool or piece of equipment more efficiently or effectively .
   Planning Excellence - Healthy Infrastructure Plan
   This award recognizes one parks , recreation , or leisure service organization planning project that displays a high degree of professional analysis , quality planning principles and organizational value .
