☷Jefferson County Man Sentenced for Interstate Domestic Violence and Firearms Charges

Paul Richard Tomlinson , a 24 - year - old from Harpers Ferry , was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for breaking a protective order and having a gun across state lines . The Martinsburg Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance at a house , where Tomlinson had a physical fight with his girlfriend ' s dad and was found with a firearm in his car . Tomlinson , who isn ' t allowed to have guns due to a previous felony , was arrested . His ex - girlfriend reported that he had abused her during a road trip , leading to a protective order . While in custody for the gun charge , Tomlinson asked his mom to talk to the victim in hopes of getting the charges dropped . After serving his sentence , Tomlinson will have three years of supervised release . This case was part of a program aimed at reducing domestic violence in the Northern District of West Virginia , formed in 2023 to protect victims and improve community safety by keeping guns away from violent offenders . U . S . Attorney Kyle Kane handled the prosecution , with the FBI , ATF , and Martinsburg PD investigating . Judge Gina M . Groh oversaw the case .
