President Biden ' s new infrastructure law is going to bring in a lot of money to create well - paying manufacturing jobs , develop clean energy supply chains , and cut down on industrial pollution . The U . S . Department of Energy just announced $425 million in funding for this project , which is a big part of President Biden ' s plan to invest in America . This program is going to make our energy supply more secure , help the economy by creating good jobs , and reduce climate pollution . It ' s all funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and managed by the Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains . The program will support small and medium - sized manufacturers in coal communities who are focused on making clean energy products and investing in decarbonization . This is the second round of investments , with the first round already seeing $275 million in federal investments across seven states . U . S . Secretary of Energy Jennifer M . Granholm says that this manufacturing boom is bringing new life to communities and providing economic opportunities while also helping the clean energy transition . This grant program is just one example of the investments being made through the infrastructure law to grow the U . S . industrial base and strengthen our supply chains . It focuses on creating secure and resilient energy supply chains , while also creating good jobs and revitalizing energy communities . In this second round , the Department of Energy wants to prioritize clean energy manufacturing and recycling , as well as industrial decarbonization . The goal is to establish or expand manufacturing or recycling facilities for advanced energy , as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create low carbon materials . If you ' re interested in this funding program , your project needs to be in a community where coal mines closed after 1999 or coal - fired power plants closed after 2009 .
