☷Garrison auto skills center plans for expansion of facility services

WIESBADEN , Germany – The Wiesbaden Auto Skills center is planning to expand its operations and services for the United States Army Garrison Wiesbaden community . Located on North Clay , this auto skills center offers more than just a place for people to work on their own cars . It provides access to a wide range of services and expertise typically found at auto dealer maintenance bays across the U . S . With six mechanics on staff , the center is able to offer various services such as general maintenance , diagnostics , suspension , tires , air conditioning , and brakes . They also offer towing , prepurchase inspection , tool and bay rentals , tools , and car wash facilities . The center is currently undergoing an expansion that will include more work bays and a larger parking area . The completion is expected within the next 18 months . In addition to their services , they also offer limited towing and lockout services to the military community . Car owners can purchase tokens at the center to use their onsite car wash facilities . The center is also looking to hire additional staff to support an additional mechanic and car detailing services . For those who prefer professional help , the center offers automotive repairs and services performed by trained and certified mechanics . Overall , the Wiesbaden Auto Skills center aims to provide excellent care for cars and customers . Offering this service is what sets the Wiesbaden Auto Skills Center apart , according to Babcock . "Here , we have skilled mechanics who can answer tough questions and help car owners with their projects , " he said . As a center that offers comprehensive car care , our mechanics provide full service . They are always ready to assist and guide car owners who want to do the work themselves . Babcock and his team of certified mechanics have a wealth of knowledge and expertise , which is why Staff Sgt . Paul Jimenez keeps returning to the auto skills center . Jimenez has built a relationship with many of the mechanics during his time in Wiesbaden , and he was recently working on his BMW at one of the center ' s bays . The mechanics ' expertise and willingness to guide him through repairs , along with the cost savings , are the main reasons why Jimenez chooses the Wiesbaden Auto Skills Center . He considers it his go - to place for vehicle repairs . Jimenez mentioned that the mechanics are always helpful and willing to assist with repairs . Being able to perform some of his own repairs while having access to the center ' s facilities and knowledge base is a huge advantage for Jimenez . Using the center ' s bays and tools also helps him save money . Babcock mentioned that they have people seeking their advice every day . His journey to becoming an expert mechanic began during his time in the Army as a light - wheeled vehicle mechanic . After leaving the Army , he underwent additional training and earned certifications from ASE . He has been a part of the center since before it moved to its current location in 2012 . Enoch Jackson exemplifies the center ' s legacy of expertise and proficiency , which keeps customers like Jimenez coming back . At the center , you ' ll often find Jackson , or Jack as he likes to be called . He gained his expertise as a mechanic while working at a well - known U . S . dealership and getting certified . Before that , he served as a vehicle mechanic in the Army . Jack , who is originally from Georgia , had different jobs like being a janitor and a certified bowling mechanic before joining the garrison automotive facility in 1980 . He ' s been a part of the center for over 40 years and played a crucial role in setting it up at its current location after it moved from Mainz Kastel . "Jack really helped me with getting the equipment ready here while managing operations at Mainz Kastel , " added Babcock . Saving money on repairs , parts , and labor is just one advantage of visiting the Wiesbaden Auto Skills Center . Another important benefit is having access to knowledge and information about American cars , which is often hard to find outside the gate in the German automotive care system . "We have a better understanding of American cars here , " explained Babcock . German car care facilities don ' t have the same diagnostic system that allows them to connect and communicate with the computer systems in American cars . This makes it more difficult to identify issues and provide the necessary service for these cars . The U . S . Army Garrison Wiesbaden Auto Skill Center offers similar amenities and services to what you would find at car care centers in the U . S . or on the local German market . The auto skills center on North Clay provides more than just a location for people wanting to work on their own vehicles . "Customers come back to us saying that German repair shops don ' t have the required software to access computers in certain American car brands . " Babcock believes it ' s important to stay updated with the latest technology in the ever - changing auto industry , but he admitted they can ' t do everything . "Newer cars with cameras and anti - collision radar technology that need calibration are left to the dealers , " added Babcock . Another advantage for customers choosing to have their vehicles serviced at the center is saving on labor costs . Did you know that the center also sells refurbished donated cars? According to Babcock , they process around 30 to 40 donated cars per month and inspect them for possible resale . After inspection , a few of these cars can be sold with some work . "On average , we only find about two or three previously donated cars that can be sold , " said Babcock . The Wiesbaden Auto Skills Center offers a range of services to our military community . If you need towing or lockout assistance , we can help . And if you ' re looking for a convenient spot to wash your car , you can buy tokens from us and use our washing booths on Clay North . For more details on towing options and other services , including prices , visit our website . When it comes to donated cars , we charge a small fee to cover administrative work for filing customs paperwork . Our team of certified mechanics inspects and repairs the cars for resale as much as possible . However , there are some issues we can ' t fix , so those cars have to be handled elsewhere . To make an appointment , keep in mind that we can get busy , especially during peak hours . It ' s helpful if you know your vehicle ' s make , model , year , and engine type when calling . If it ' s hard to reach us by phone , you can also email us through the U . S . Army Garrison Wiesbaden Morale , Welfare , and Recreation website . Remember , we ' re here to help you save money , so always check with us first .
