☷Fort Sill units display task force readiness on rails for exercise

Soldiers from different units at Fort Sill were busy loading military vehicles onto rails for an upcoming Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise ( EDRE ) . This took place at the National Training Center ( NTC ) and soldiers from the 75th Field Artillery Brigade , the 2nd Battalion , 18th Field Artillery Regiment , and the 4th Battalion , 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment were all involved . The railhead operations were carried out on Monday , January 8 , 2024 . The commander of the III Corps started an EDRE to test the unit ' s ability to alert , recall , and deploy parts of the 75th Field Artillery Brigade , 2nd Battalion , 18th Field Artillery Regiment , 4th Battalion , 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment , and 69th Forward Support Company . These units had to load a bunch of military vehicles onto rail cars to transport them to the National Training Center ( NTC ) in Fort Irwin , California . Soldiers from the 75th Field Artillery Brigade , 2nd Battalion , 18th Field Artillery Regiment , and 4th Battalion , 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment loaded different military vehicles onto rails in preparation for an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise ( EDRE ) at the NTC . Soldiers from the 75th Field Artillery Brigade , the 2nd Battalion , 18th Field Artillery Regiment , and the 4th Battalion , 60th Air Defense Artillery Regiment are loading different military vehicles onto rails for an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise ( EDRE ) at the National Training Center ( NTC ) . According to Col . Stephen Walker , the commander of the 75th FA Brigade , despite the cold weather and rain , the rail operations went well and everyone stayed safe . Walker emphasized the importance of the EDRE in ensuring their readiness and ability to support missions assigned by Forces Command . The Army regularly conducts EDREs to assess its capability to deploy ground forces quickly . Lt . Col . Richard Farnell , the commander of the 2 - 18th FA , stated that the railhead operations were not the starting point for his soldiers but rather the culmination of their day - to - day training to be prepared for combat at any moment . Farnell emphasized the need to stay ready and deployable at all times , which includes maintaining vehicles and being familiar with the Unit Deployment List . Sgt . 1st Class Chad Payne , a master gunner with 2 - 18th FA , mentioned that EDREs give young Soldiers a taste of what a combat deployment would be like . He also emphasized the importance of being mission ready and always prepared for sudden overseas deployments . The Army ' s training aims to provide highly capable and agile forces for combat missions . Spc . Bryden Jordan , a gunner with 2 - 18th FA , praised the well - organized rail operations , strong emphasis on safety , and effective leadership during the EDRE training .
