Adapting to the sport took time , but Chris was determined to learn and improve . Despite his height advantage on the court , he initially felt like a bull in a china shop . However , he embraced the competitiveness of wheelchair basketball and the camaraderie it fosters . After intense games , the players come together to shake hands before enjoying pizza and drinks , creating a sense of normalcy and contentment . Parx went far away from basketball on wheelchairs in his training . He joined the army team and participated in swimming , running , field events , and hand cycling for the United States team in various warrior and Invictus games . Parx said , "It is interesting that a tragic event like losing your leg puts you in a difficult position , and you start to think that the best times are behind you . But in reality , the best times have not yet begun . " Parx found it empowering and felt honored to wear the uniforms of the army and the United States team . He said , "I felt very honored . It was a deeply immersive experience . I went through something I never expected in a million years , which is representing my country in Invictus . I participated in hand cycling on my birthday in Invictus in Sydney and was chosen to meet Prince Harry on that day . He met me and wished me a happy birthday , and it was really wonderful . Can you ask for anything more seriously?" Today , living in Weatherford , Texas , Parx and his wife Amy want to compensate others who face change due to disability . He said , "Without adaptive sports , I wouldn ' t have reached where I am today . About a year ago , my wife and I formed a wheelchair basketball team called Outlaws in Texas , and that wouldn ' t have happened without it or if we didn ' t engage in adaptive sports . " The new team recently participated in the playoffs and placed third! Giving back and volunteering have always been important to the Parx family . He said , "Before moving to Weatherford , we lived in Copperas Cove where I was part of a committee that helped build an accessible park on three acres of city land . I was able to make a difference . "
